What should a Best Man Speech include?

This question is a very popular query of choice for anyone who is given the honor of giving a Best Man speech. Most people know and understand that a few lighthearted Best Man jokes, and a wedding toast are vital to a Best Man speech, but maybe aren’t as familiar with the content outside of that nor indeed too familiar with the format of a Best Man speech so today we look at what your Best Man speech should contain.

You should begin your speech with a welcoming icebreaker of an opening line, then tell everyone how honored you are to be the Best Man. You should compliment frequently during your speech, the people to praise are; The Bride, The Bridesmaids with particular reference to the Maid of Honor, The Groom and parents of the Bride and Groom. It is also a nice thought to include your Groomsmen when thanking everyone, humility is always appreciated by wedding guests. Praising the Bride is a vital component of your speech and one that can garner a standing ovation alone, so choose your compliments wisely.

A few lighthearted short stories from the Groom’s past are essential, just ensure they will be of interest to everyone, not just the Groom’s friends. Following a few jokes made at the Groom’s expense tell everyone that you are very proud to be his Best Man and mention how much his friendship has meant to you over the years.

Use a famous wedding quote or two to maintain the feel-good factor in the room, then discuss the positive impact the Bride has had on the Groom since coming into his life. Tell a story about the first time you met the Bride and how you knew from the start that she was “the one”.

Finish up with an inspirational closing line  that will lead nicely into your Best Man toast.

Keep the speech personal, don’t try to insert somebody else’s personality into your speech, if you are not comfortable speaking for 5 minutes then just speak for 3 minutes.
